QUARTZITE

Natural quartzite—not to be confused with engineered quartz—has grown in popularity in recent years for its stunning appearance and exceptional durability. It offers the elegant, veined look often associated with marble, while providing a much harder surface ideal for kitchen countertops and other demanding applications.

• True quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed when sandstone is transformed by intense heat and pressure over millions of years. This process creates a dense, durable material that is naturally heat- and scratch-resistant and reasonably resistant to staining. In some varieties, the presence of additional minerals during formation produces unique colors and striking patterns, making each slab truly one-of-a-kind.

• Like most natural stones, quartzite should be sealed periodically to protect against staining.

• While generally more expensive than traditional granite, its combination of beauty, durability, and low maintenance makes it an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-use spaces.
