Dusk
approaches....desert winds blow sand against the camel keeper's face as he urges
along his train of camels....
The
inspiration for this piece of art came from the magnificently striated stone.
This sandstone was formed in the African desert over centuries - old rocks at the earth’s surface weathered
due to the extreme climatic conditions, forming sediments
that were buried, then compacted, heated and then re-crystallized into new rock. This
stone inherited characteristics from the environment where it was formed.
Eventually, it found its way back to the surface, with the help of forces that
drive plate motions in the earth....
Because
of the unpredictability of nature, this stone is extremely difficult, if not
impossible, to find in this exact form making this particular piece of artwork
all the more invaluable. |
