The
heart of this artwork is the maple leaf - its shape and detailed contour an
inspiration from the Japanese maple that changes colors from deep red in spring
to gold in fall.
Designed
to bring out the beautiful colors from the sarkisla rug on which this artwork
was to be placed, the unusual combination of textured Brazilian slate with
autumn hued marble maple leaves, makes quite a statement.
Inherently delicate in nature, this particular variety of slate is an extremely
difficult stone to work with. The challenge is to cut very fine details of the
maple leaf, through 3cm thick stone, without hitting a weak spot or 'vein' that
could potentially disintegrate the slab. The inlaid marble and the slate slab
have different thicknesses, which make gluing the pieces together a work of art
all by itself.
The end
result - an exotic and breathtaking centerpiece, that quite easily becomes the
focus of attention and conversation!
